There are three ponds on the site of the old Pope & Talbot Mill Site and the current Industrial Park. It’s an odd place to bird but can produce some surprising species of birds along with the more common ones. There was a Golden Eagle spotted here on the 2016 Christmas Bird Count. Greater White-fronted Geese are seen here in the fall. Canvasback are seen in the southern most pond most winters along with a rare Ruddy Duck or Tundra Swan. Yellow-headed Blackbird has been seen here. Red-tailed Hawks, Peregrine Falcon, Prairie Falcon, American Kestrels, Osprey and Bald Eagles can be spotted. Double-crested Cormorants, Great Blue Herons, Killdeer, Wood Ducks, Pied-billed Grebes, American Coots, California Quail, American Pipits, Wrentits, Western Kingbirds and a wide variety of sparrows are also present at different times of the year. The ducks at Salmon Creek Pond are often present here also.
