The pond is located on the south side of the creek just below the old train bridge to the mill site. Walking the levee you can see a wide variety of birds; Osprey, spring through fall; Bald Eagles, Red-tailed, Coopers, Sharp-shinned and Red-shouldered Hawks and Belted Kingfishers year-round. American Dippers and Common Mergansers are year-round in Salmon Creek. Harlequin Ducks pairs have been seen in recent years and are suspected of breeding here along with Spotted Sandpipers. Many species of sparrows, wrens, flycatchers, thrushes, woodpeckers and warblers can also be seen. Yellow-breasted Chats breed in some of the heavier blackberry areas. Ducks seen in the pond are: Bufflehead, Mallard, American Widgeon, Gadwall, Green-winged Teal, Ring-necked Duck, Northern Shoveler, Lesser Scaup, Hooded Merganser and American Coots.
